There is power in numbers. Join over 1,000 other stakeholders who support Heritage’s mission to protect and enhance San Francisco’s unique architectural and cultural identity. 

Year 2009 has been a busy one: here are some of the highlights as Heritage:

1. Advocates
  • With the success of Proposition J and establishment of the new Historic Preservation Commission, Heritage hosted a March 2009 symposium on the new HPC, and is actively supporting rewrite of the Planning Code to best utilize this commission
  • Continue review and influence real estate development projects affecting historic resources through the respected Heritage Issues Committee
  • Twice appealed Redevelopment Agency’s decision to support demolition of 1450 Franklin Street, an important and intact “Auto Row” structure: Heritage is moving forward with legal action
  • Support and collaborate with neighborhood and other organizations citywide with preservation advocacy
  • Advocate for compliance of City Departments, Boards and Commissions with current preservation standards and regulations
  • Continue staff review of demolition permit applications to prevent demolition of architecturally and culturally significant properties
2. Promotes preservation values
  • Michael Corbett has begun writing Port City on the Port’s architecture, history and reuse
  • Established Heritage Young Preservationists (HeritageYP): a vibrant and active network with a website and listserv
  • Su pported successful Tenderloin and Bernard Maybeck-designed Roos House National Register nominations
3. Educates and stewards historic properties
  • Inspected all 60 Heritage easement properties and developed an easements business plan
  • Moving forward on special-needs access and fire safety improvements at the Haas-Lilienthal House, and hosting increasingly diverse visitor population, including ElderHostel and over 1,000 public school students this year!
