SF Heritage Welcomes Christine French and Missy Mastel

San Francisco Heritage is pleased to welcome Christine French and Missy Mastel to our staff. Christine is serving as our new Director of Advocacy & Programs (effective October 24, 2022), and Missy as our new Director of Finance & Administration (effective October 11, 2022).

Christine Madrid French will work closely with the President
& CEO, and support the Projects & Policy Committee of our Board of Directors. As our Director of Advocacy & Programs, she will represent SF Heritage in meetings and consultations at City Hall and with developers, in neighborhood alliances and cultural districts, with the media and other partners, direct advocacy, programs and education initiatives, and support fundraising to advance SF Heritage’s mission.

is a historian and advocate for the study and preservation of American architecture. She was born and raised in Los Angeles and is a graduate of the University of Utah and the University of Virginia (MArH). She has worked as an historian for the National Park Service in Washington, D.C., directed the Modern + Recent Past Program at the National Trust for Historic Preservation in San Francisco, and most recently served as Director of Development & Marketing at the California Preservation Foundation. At the University of Florida, Christine taught courses at the College of Design, Construction and Planning and co-directed the first statewide survey “Mid-Century Modern Architecture in Florida (1945-75),” which was awarded a Documentation Award for Excellence by Docomomo-US. Over her career, she has raised more than $2.5 million for non-profit causes in art and architecture. Her book The Architecture of Suspense: The Built World in the Films of Alfred Hitchcock, focusing on the real-world histories of cinematic structures, was just released by the University of Virginia Press and an excerpt of the Villain’s Lair chapter is featured in the October 2022 issue of Vanity Fair.

Missy Mastel

Missy Mastel (CPA, CGMA) will work with the President & CEO and the Vice President of Advancement, and actively support the Finance Committee of our Board of Directors. She manages all finance and administration responsibilities and supervises the Property & Rental Manager of our two cultural properties.

Missy is internationally recognized as the expert in the field of expense management. As the author of two books in both telecom and non-profit expense management, she is widely sought-after as a speaker, trainer, and lecturer on the topic.  A forensic auditor and consultant with the State of California, the Ninth Circuit Court System, and various international conservation, humanist and healthcare organizations, Missy is thrilled to join SF Heritage. She holds degrees in accounting, international business management and theology from Georgetown University and is a member of the AICPA and the California Association of Accounting Professionals.  She has made San Francisco her home for most of the last 30 years, even when on loan to organizations in Madrid, Spain and Perth, Australia.  She has two grown children, a rescue pig, speaks fluent Spanish, and spends her free time supporting animal rescue, equity organizations and foster care.
