Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are an essential part of the operation of the Haas-Lilienthal House and San Francisco Heritage.  Whether your interests are history, architecture, antiques or community preservation there is a place for you in our Volunteer Corps. For more information and to register for the docent training, please contact Hannah Woodall, Community Development Manager at hwoodall@sfheritage.org

Opportunities include:

House Docents:  Volunteers lead the public through tours of the exterior and interior of the Haas-Lilienthal House. Tours are currently offered on Saturdays with docent shifts from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sign up for our summer training session (July 13, July 20, and August 3) and join the fun.

Walking Tour Guides: Volunteers lead the public on the Broadway or Pacific Heights neighborhood walking tour. Each tour typically last 1 ½ hours to 2 hours on alternating Saturdays from the Haas-Lilienthal House at 12:30. We’ll train you!

School Tour Guides (Heritage Hikes): Haas-Lilienthal House Tours are offered to select 3rd grade classrooms through our popular Heritage Hikes program. December through May, school groups visit on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a guided tour of the house. School tours involve additional teaching aids and last around 1 hour. Volunteers complete training in order to conduct Heritage Hikes tours. Great opportunity for retired teachers!

Greeter/Cashiers: On tour days from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., our greeter/cashier welcomes visitors to the Haas-Lilienthal House, check-in attendees, sells items from the gift shop, and chats with visitors from around the world!

Special Event Volunteer: San Francisco Heritage also organizes a variety of fundraising events. Volunteers participate in multiple ways depending on the function and what is needed. We often have a really good time.
