Join San Francisco Heritage virtually from 6-7 pm on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, for a special evening program. Woody LaBounty, SF Heritage President and CEO, will share the story of the 5,610 cottages constructed for the refugees of the great San Francisco earthquake and fire in 1906. Using historical photos, maps, and ephemera, the presentation will show the magnitude of the disaster and the innovative relief plan designed to provide shelter for more than 16,000 refugees in city parks. A virtual tour of the surviving “earthquake shacks” in the city and a checklist for identifying these unique remnants of San Francisco history will also be part of the program.
