Legacy Circle – Planned Giving
San Francisco Heritage’s work is possible because of thoughtful, passionate individuals who give support, voice, and financial resources, now and for the future. In contemplating your own personal legacy, we hope that you will consider making a planned gift to Heritage in your estate plans. Including Heritage in your will or trust provides the satisfaction of knowing that your bequest will enable future generations to enjoy the city you love. Legacy gifts sustain our mission to preserve and enhance San Francisco’s unique architectural and cultural identity, providing an enduring benefit to residents and visitors beyond your lifetime.
Types of Gifts
GIFTS BY WILL
A will or living trust can help ensure that your loved ones will be provided for and your charitable giving goals will be met.
GIFTS THAT PROVIDE INCOME
You can make a gift that provides income to you and/or a loved one for life or a set period of time. Assets remaining in the gift plan at the end of the payment period will then benefit San Francisco Heritage.
GIFTS OF APPRECIATED PROPERTY
If you own securities such as stocks, bonds, mutual funds, real estate or other property that has increased in value over time, leaving that property to Heritage may result in significant tax savings. Giving appreciated property can help conserve cash for other uses, and the tax savings allows many to make a larger gift that they thought possible.
GIFTS OF LIFE INSURANCE OR RETIREMENT ASSETS
You can also name Heritage as the beneficiary of life insurance policies or retirement plans. These assets can be an excellent way to make a charitable gift because:
- There is no need to make any changes to your will or living trust;
- Heritage is a qualified charity, therefore the funds will be distributed to Heritage free of any taxes;
- You retain complete control over your assets. Your gift will be transferred to Heritage only after your lifetime, so you may be able to make a much larger gift than you ever expected.
