Our Mission and Our Work

San Francisco Heritage is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) whose mission is to preserve and enhance San Francisco’s unique architectural and cultural identity. Since 1971, we have protected the city in the face of rapid change. This includes advocacy for historic resources, educational programming, and the preservation and interpretation of two landmark properties.

Urban Landscape

Advocacy, documentation, and interpretation of the city’s historic buildings, districts, landscapes, and infrastructure.

Heritage Properties

Stewardship and programming at the 1886 Haas-Lilienthal House and the 1904 Doolan-Larson Building.

Cultural Districts

Partnerships with city-designated districts embodying unique heritages.

Community Vitality

Support of public art, local traditions, and neighborhood cohesiveness through “Heritage in the Neighborhoods” and other initiatives.

Legacy Businesses

Celebrating and advocating for the city’s historic small businesses.
